Sunset Avenue from Hampton Drive to 49th Street at Butler University Streetscape, Roadway Rehabilitation and Green Infrastructure Project for Indianapolis DPW and Butler University
This project was the recipient of an American Council of Engineering Companies Indiana (ACEC) Merit Award for Outstanding Engineering Excellence! This “complete streets” project was comprised of new bicycle lanes, green infrastructure consisting of infiltration trenches, permeable pavers, permeable asphalt pavement (considered a BMP), bus turnout, sidewalks, ADA ramps, roadway reconstruction and resurfacing as well as decorative street lighting and landscaping. The services provided by First Group Engineering were project management, survey and roadway and street lighting design.
US 40 (South A Street) from South 3rd Street to South 11th Street and US 40 (South 11th Street) from South A Street to East Main Street in Richmond, Wayne County, Indiana
This project was the recipient of the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) Honor Award for Engineering Excellence and the Indiana Chapter of American Concrete Pavement Association (ACPA) Excellence in Concrete Pavement Award in addition to being the first precast concrete pavement project ever built in Indiana! US 40 was bid as one contract with US 27 (8th Street) from South O Street to North D Street, and US 27 (Chester Blvd.) from North F Street to Whitewater River Bridge. Extremely difficult utility coordination challenges faced the project team as this highly urbanized stretch of US 40 and US 27 is home to numerous above and underground utilities. Due to the experimental essence of this project, First Group Engineering prepared and delivered a presentation for a pre-bid project information meeting for contractors, suppliers, and other interested parties. The meeting sought to explain the relevant project information and how the precast concrete pavement system will work. First Group Engineering collaborated with INDOT Pavement Design Office, Greenfield District Construction, FHWA, The Fort Miller Company, and many others to deliver this project successfully on time and within budget despite the accelerated schedule and cutting-edge nature of the project.
